A Heroic Comeback That Fell Short
Borussia Dortmund bid farewell to the 2024–2025 UEFA Champions League with pride, despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals by FC Barcelona. Powered by a sensational hat-trick from Serhou Guirassy, the German side won the second leg 3-1 at Signal Iduna Park. However, the heavy 4-0 defeat in the first leg proved too much to overcome, with Barcelona advancing on a 5-3 aggregate score.
From the first whistle, Dortmund applied high pressure, and Guirassy opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. He added two more, including a powerful header early in the second half. Unfortunately, a costly own goal from Ramy Bensebaini allowed Barcelona to preserve a safe lead.
Guirassy, Europe’s Sharpshooter
With his hat-trick, Serhou Guirassy became the Champions League’s top scorer, reaching 13 goals and surpassing Barcelona’s Raphinha. His dominant offensive presence was a key force behind Dortmund’s deep run in the tournament.
Aston Villa Fights to the End
In the other quarter-final tie, Aston Villa secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the return leg. However, after a 3-1 loss in the first leg, the English club bowed out with a narrow 5-4 aggregate defeat. Ousmane Dembélé was named Man of the Match for his standout performance.
